When can PSG win the Ligue 1 title?

Paris Saint-Germain took a big step towards another Ligue 1 title as they overcame Marseille 3-1 on Sunday at the Parc des Princes.

The latest result means Luis Enrique’s side have extended their lead at the top to 19 points with eight games remaining in the season.

The victory came just days after they beat Liverpool on penalties to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals, a feat which looked very unlikely for Football Today and soccer fans after they lost the first-leg of the last-16 tie.

PSG took control of the home contest by scoring a goal in the 17th minute.

Ousmane Dembele latched onto a Fabian Ruiz pass and skipped past goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli before finishing emphatically into an exposed net. It was the 27-year-old’s 30th goal in all competitions this season.

Ruiz also set up the Parisians’ second just before half-time, providing a brilliant cross for Nuno Mendes to slot it home.

Marseille showed improvement after the interval as they pulled one back through Amine Gouiri, who fired home a brilliant ball from Adrien Rabiot.

However, the visitors’ hopes of a comeback ended in the 76th minute when Pol Lirola inadvertently put the ball into his own net as he tried to clear a dangerous cross from Achraf Hakimi.

It was Marseille’s third defeat in their previous four matches, but they still retain their second spot in the table with 49 points.

PSG can win Ligue 1 after the international break

The Parisians lost Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid in the summer, but they have been absolutely impressive this season under Luis Enrique.

They haven’t lost a single game in the French top-flight, winning 21 of their 26 games so far.

Now it is a matter of when and not if PSG will win the Ligue 1. The European giants are currently 19 points clear at the top, and they will be crowned champions if they beat Saint-Étienne after the international break, provided Marseille also lose against Stade de Reims.
