PSG set to take on PSV in must-win Champions League home fixture

Perennial Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain return to UEFA Champions League action on Tuesday night with a must-win home clash against PSV Eindhoven.

Bradley Barcola was on the scoresheet again in PSG’s emphatic 4-2 victory against Strasbourg last Saturday, helping his side uphold their unbeaten league start (W6, D2).

During his recent interview with 10Sport, the free-firing youngster opened up on his new role in the team following Kylian Mbappe’s transfer to Real Madrid in the summer.

The 22-year-old is firing on all cylinders this term, hauling seven goals and one assist in eight league appearances.

However, he has yet to get on the board in Europe, perhaps best illustrating PSG’s notorious inability to replicate their domestic success on the grandest continental stage.

Les Parisiens’ top priority is to translate their formidable domestic form to the European front after Champions League live stream fans watched them stutter in the first two rounds.

European Struggle

Luis Enrique’s side grabbed a last-gasp 1-0 home triumph against Girona on matchday one, courtesy of Paulo Gazzaniga’s epic blunder, though they deserved the win.

Yet, the Paris outfit’s long-standing struggles in continental football came to the fore in round two as Arsenal got the better of them 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Back to the Parc des Princes, where they’ve only lost one of their last 37 matches in the Champions League group/league phase (W29, D7), the French heavyweights should feel entitled to another success.

In-Form Opposition

A 2-1 derby win against AZ Alkmaar at the weekend maintained PSV’s flawless Eredivisie start, making it nine wins out of nine at the beginning of their title defence.

But like PSG, Peter Bosz’s charges have failed to impress in the Champions League.

PSV at least bounced back from a 3-1 defeat at Juventus in round one with a commendable 1-1 home draw against Ruben Amorim’s high-flying Sporting CP.

Despite their sub-par continental results, the Peasants deserve the benefit of the doubt, so PSG would be well-advised not to take this task lightly.
