Battling for a place in the Champions League last 16, Paris Saint-Germain will welcome Newcastle United to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. 

PSG are sitting sixth in the table, despite having the same points as seventh-placed Newcastle. 

Match Preview 

PSG returned to the Ligue 1 summit after beating Auxerre 1-0 at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps last weekend. 

The only goal of the match came off the boots of Bradley Barcola, who netted the winner in the 79th minute. 

Luis Enrique’s men now turn their focus to the Champions League, where a victory against Newcastle would put them through to the last 16 of the tournament. 

The French giants suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Sporting Lisbon in their last game in Europe. 

Luis Suarez broke the deadlock in the 74th minute before substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia quickly leveled the scores. 

But Sporting had the last laugh as Suarez scored the winner after goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier spilled a long shot. 

Newcastle enter Wednesday’s contest on the back of a 2-0 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa. 

But Eddie Howe’s men will fancy their chances against PSG following a morale-boosting 3-0 success over PSV Eindhoven in their previous Champions League fixture. 

Team News 

PSG will likely be missing Matvey Safonov, Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz due to injuries. Lee Kang-in’s involvement is also doubtful because of fitness issues, but Lucas Hernandez is eligible to return from suspension. 

As for Newcastle, Jacob Murphy and Tino Livramento have hamstring strains, while Jamaal Lascelles is out due to a muscle issue. Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes may also miss out due to ankle injuries.
