Paris Saint-Germain well-positioned to achieve long-overdue Champions League success

Potentially three games away from winning their maiden Champions League trophy, Paris Saint-Germain could put years of misjudged investments and disappointments behind them by June 1.

Luis Enrique’s thrived in the face of adversity in the quarter-finals, fighting back from a 3-2 first-leg deficit to set a semi-final date against Borussia Dortmund.

Boosted by Ronald Araujo’s first-half expulsion, PSG steamrolled to a 4-1 victory in Catalunya to exact revenge on the reigning La Liga holders for the famous ‘Remontada’ in 2017.

Another landslide 4-1 victory over Lorient on Wednesday sealed PSG’s record-extending 12th Ligue 1 title, allowing Enrique’s side to focus on a long-awaited European triumph for the remainder of the campaign.

Led by the competition’s top-scorer, Kylian Mbappe, the perennial French champions are favourites to leave Dortmund in their wake and book tickets for Wembley Stadium.

PSG and Dortmund shared the stage in this season’s ‘Group of Death.’

Despite making it out of the group phase by the skin of their teeth, courtesy of a 1-1 draw at Signal Iduna Park on the final matchday, Les Parisiens have performed incredibly well in springtime fixtures.

In addition to a relatively straightforward win against Real Sociedad in the round of 16 and the abovementioned comeback against Barcelona, they’ve gone from strength to strength in Ligue 1.

That home loss to Los Blaugranas is, in fact, PSG’s only defeat in competitive action since a 2-1 defeat at AC Milan in early November.

Enrique seems to have found a winning formula after a see-saw start to his tenure at the Parc des Princes, suggesting Football Today’s predictions for this tie are spot on.

It’s been four years since PSG last featured in the Champions League final, and they could get a chance to settle the account with Bayern Munich for a 1-0 heartache in the 2020 showpiece event.

Thomas Tuchel’s men meet Real Madrid in the other semi-final tie after overcoming Arsenal in the quarter-finals, and it’s hard to put it past them to upset the odds again.
