Goncalo Ramos scores hat-trick as PSG destroy Stade Briochin

Paris Saint-Germain were at their destructive best on Wednesday as they thrashed fourth-tier Stade Briochin 7-0 in the French Cup quarterfinal. 

Les Griffons exceeded expectations by claiming shocking victories over Nice and Le Havre in the previous rounds of the competition. But their fairytale run in the tournament came to an end yesterday after PSG struck seven unanswered goals at the Roazhon Park 

Joao Neves put his side ahead in the 16th minute as he pounced on a rebound off the crossbar to score the first. 

Goncalo Ramos extended their advantage with a close-range finish from Senny Mayulu’s cross before half-time. 

The Portuguese star earned his second soon after the break by converting his spot-kick. He then turned provider for Desire Doue who struck a brilliant shot past the goalkeeper. 

Doue returned the favour as he teed up Ramos for his hat-trick, which is his first treble for the Ligue 1 giants. 

Mayulu also earned his name on the scoresheet before substitute Ousmane Dembele completed the rout by netting PSG’s seventh in the 85th minute. 

Luis Enrique’s side are unbeaten since November when they lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in Europe. 

They will now take on Lille this Saturday in the Ligue 1 before hosting Liverpool in the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie. 

PSG are expected to face a tough test against the Reds, who have been almost impeccable under manager Arne Slot. 

The Merseyside giants won seven of their eight matches to top the  Champions League group. They are also on course to win the Premier League title after losing just once in the English top-flight. 

Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United means they are now 13 points clear at the summit. 

However, they will face a PSG side who haven’t lost a game since November. The Parisians will also be playing in front of their home crowd, which will be a big advantage.
